Emil Leon Post (1897-1954) was an influential American mathematician and logician. He made notable contributions to mathematical logic, recursion theory, and computer science. Post's work on the Post correspondence problem and formal systems has had a lasting impact on the understanding of computation and the foundations of computer science.
Developed the Post machine as a model of computation, independently of Turing. Known also for developing truth tables, the Post correspondence problem used in recursion theory as well as proving what is known as Post's theorem.
