Cuthbert Hurd

Cuthbert C. Hurd (1911-1996) was an American computer scientist and engineer. He played a pivotal role in the development of the IBM System/360 computer system, one of the most influential in history. Hurd's work in computer architecture and system design contributed to the advancement of computing technology.

An influential American computer scientist who established IBM's first Applied Science Department. He played a critical role in the development of IBM's first commercial scientific computer, the IBM 701, and the promotion of FORTRAN, an early high-level programming language. Hurd also initiated the CSNET project, a precursor to the internet.
