George Robert Stibitz was an American researcher at Bell Labs who is internationally recognized as
George R. Stibitz (1904-1995) was an American mathematician and electrical engineer. He played a significant role in the early development of digital computing, creating the Complex Number Calculator and contributing to the Bell Labs Model I computer. Stibitz's work was instrumental in shaping the future of computing technology.
Father of modern digital computing and remote job entry. Coined the term "digital". Discovered the reflected binary code known as Gray code. Excess-3 code is named after him as well (Stibitz code).
