Peter Naur

Peter Naur (1928-2016) was a Danish computer scientist and Turing Award recipient. He made significant contributions to the development of programming languages, particularly with the development of the programming language ALGOL 60. Naur's work emphasized the importance of precise language specification and formal methods in software development.

Co-developed the Backus-Naur Form (BNF) used for describing programming language syntax. He contributed to the development of Algol 60, a major influence on programming languages. Naur was also a pioneer in software engineering and received the Turing Award in 2005 for his contributions.

Peter Naur was a Danish computer science pioneer and 2005 Turing Award winner. He is best remembered as a contributor, with John Backus, to the Backus–Naur form (BNF) notation used in describing the syntax for most programming languages. He also contributed to creating the language ALGOL 60.
